To ensure proper fit, comfort, hygiene, and overall safety, all Open Water students are required to purchase their own personal snorkel equipment, including mask, snorkel, and fins. Students may choose from curated equipment packages or mix-and-match options to suit their needs and budget. Our instructors and staff will assist with professional fitting and selection.

Who Can Enroll?
- Ages: 10+ (Junior Open Water available)
- Requirements: Basic swimming skills and good general health
- Experience: No prior scuba experience required

Learn the fundamental principles of scuba diving through online learning, independent study, or classroom instruction. - Confined Water Training

Personal Snorkel Equipment Standard
To ensure proper fit, comfort, hygiene, and consistency throughout training, all Open Water students use their own personal snorkel equipment, including mask, snorkel, and fins. YSS Dive offers curated equipment options and professional fitting assistance to help each student select gear that supports success in training and beyond.
Equipment & Training Standards
Throughout the course, students learn to properly use essential scuba equipment including a regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), and scuba cylinder. Equipment configurations may vary depending on whether training takes place in tropical, temperate, or cold-water environments.
Open Water Checkout Dives
When conditions allow, Open Water checkout dives are conducted at Sund Rock Marine Preserve, one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic and protected dive sites—an unforgettable place to complete your certification dives.
