PADI Divemaster Course

  • Prerequisites:
    • Minimum of 40 logged dives to start the course and 60 dives to earn certification.
    • PADI Rescue Diver certification.
    • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months.
    • Medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
  • Focus: Emphasizes leadership, dive management, and supervision. The course includes knowledge development, water skills exercises, and practical assessments.
  • Structure: Highly standardized and structured, ensuring consistency across different locations and instructors.
  • Global Recognition: PADI is the largest dive organization in the world, making its certifications widely recognized and respected globally.

NAUI Divemaster Course

  • Prerequisites:
    • Minimum of 50 logged dives with at least 25 hours of bottom time.
    • NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver and NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver certifications or equivalent.
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
  • Focus: Strong emphasis on dive safety, problem-solving, and practical application of skills. The course includes extensive hands-on training and real-world scenarios.
  • Structure: Offers more flexibility, allowing instructors to adapt the training to the needs of the students.
  • Reputation: Known for its conservative approach to training and safety, NAUI prioritizes building a strong foundation of knowledge and skills.

Key Differences

  • Training Approach: PADI follows a more standardized and structured approach, while NAUI offers more flexibility and emphasizes practical application and problem-solving.
  • Course Integration: PADI’s Divemaster course is part of a clear progression path leading to the Instructor Development Course (IDC). NAUI’s course can be more adaptable to individual needs.
