You don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your Open Water Diver certification. NAUI Advanced Open Water Diver
That’s what the NAUI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about—building experience, confidence, and capability after your Open Water certification. You don’t need to be “advanced” to begin. This course is designed to advance your diving through guided training dives that expand your skills and help you become more comfortable in a wider range of conditions.
At YSS Dive, Advanced Open Water is where divers start to level up: better buoyancy, stronger situational awareness, smarter planning, and more control—while still keeping the experience fun, supportive, and adventure-forward. You’ll complete a series of training dives that introduce new environments and techniques under the direct supervision of your NAUI Instructor.

You’ll log training dives as you practice new skills and explore different types of diving. Many of the dives you complete in Advanced Open Water can also support your path into additional continuing education and specialty training.
Who Can Enroll?
- Prerequisite: NAUI Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
- Minimum age: Typically 12+ (Junior options may be available; dive types may vary by age)
What You’ll Do
- Complete a series of instructor-led training dives designed to expand your comfort zone
- Improve buoyancy control, navigation, and dive planning skills
- Gain experience in new dive environments and conditions
- Build confidence through structured coaching and real-world practice
Already completed an “adventure-style” continuing education course? Great—some previous training may apply. Ask your instructor what credit or crossover may be available based on your certification path and logged dives.
